Welborn Arrives at Army Training Center at Ft. Bliss, Texas

Roy Murrell Welborn, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Welborn of Malakoff, according to information received here this week, has arrived at Fort Bliss, Texas, to be trained as an antiaircraft artilleryman. Young Welborn will spend his first eight weeks at the El Paso center learning how to be a basic soldier. In addition to his instruction in the care and use of weapons and antiaircraft guns, he will also become familiar with the use of compass and maps and will take his place in a squad and platoon in training in the attack, the defense, and on the march.
Upon completion of his basic training, Welborn will be led to specialize in one of the several antiaircraft artillery fields.
The youthful soldier was born and reared in Malakoff and is a graduate of the Malakoff High School.
