Liz’s Listings

One of the nicest things about working here at the News is meeting and talking to people and particularly hearing about school programs which we enjoy.  Wednesday morning, Mr. Starkey called us to say that the Malakoff School Band was presenting a practice concert in the auditorium and invited us to attend.  Band director Charles Wetzel has done an excellent job with our band, which is only three years old.  It has grown to a membership of fifty pieces, starting out with a very few.

Among the numbers we enjoyed at the concert were:  “Wang, Wang Blues” (which was popular in our younger days), “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” “Fascination” and “Singing the Blues.”

The solo part in the first number mentioned was played by Mike Starkey and was really good.  Sometime in April, Mr. Wetzel said the band would give a concert for the public, and we suggest that you plan to attend and see for yourselves just what a fine young band we have and how well Mr. Wetzel has done directing the group.
